About the project

These pieces were created for the Hong Kong Memory website to introduce traditional cultural festivals of Hong Kong. I was responsible for the theme of the Hungry Ghost Festival.

The Hungry Ghost Festival is the Chinese Ghost Festival, which falls on the fifteenth day of the seventh lunar month. It is believed that on this day the gates of the underworld open, and wandering spirits come to the human world.

The illustration depicts some of the folk activities held on this day, as well as rituals for paying respect to ancestors.
